To Laker Families.
It is of great pleasure to welcome everyone back for an exciting year at Harvey High!
- Tuesday, September 5 will be a regular first day of school for all grade 6-12 students. All students are welcome to take their regular bus in the morning and afternoon.
- All grade 6-12 students will go to their homeroom or advisory block for the first two periods Tuesday. Teachers will review schedules and other information. Teachers will be available to help guide students to the right room.
- Grade 6 will have Mrs. Miner and Ms. McCarthy for homeroom.
- We have a new cell phone policy for grade 6-8. We want to ensure all students are engaged in learning as much as possible, therefore, cellphones will not be allowed in the classroom at any time of the day and must remain in their locker except during morning break and lunch. Please take time to talk to your child about this.
- The cafeteria will be open on September 11, and we will share the menu as soon as possible.
- Teachers of grade 6-8 will be implementing the Holistic Curriculum Framework and are excited about the endless possibilities. As part of the change process, we will be:
- Moving from 5 one-hour periods to shorter, but more frequent periods.
- Introducing Physical Education class (Gym) every day of the week for all learners.
- Offering a common day that remains the same each day of the week.
- Introducing an exploratory block. This block will allow students to be engaged in: Art, music, digital tech/wood shop, personal wellness, and culinary tech/gardening.
- Grade 10-12 will be moving forward with the high school renewal process that is taking place across the province. At Harvey High we are moving towards an educational experience that truly recognizes each learner and what can be done to best support them on their pathway. We are offering a few new courses for the first time:
- Personal Wellness
- Agriculture Science
- Yoga
- Visual and Creative Art
- Grade 10 ELA Foundation There are changes coming regarding our closed campus policy that will impact grade 9 and 10, more information will be shared on Tuesday.
- Middle and High School schedules are attached and posted on our website.

Yours in Education,
Jeremy MacIver
